Following on from last week’s series, I was asked to provide what I felt were the top Online Reputation Management resources currently existing on the web.
Probably the most prolific blogger on the subject of Online Reputation Management is Andy Beal at Marketing Pilgrim. It is quite normal for this site to boast 30 posts a week or more, most of which are jam packed with information. He has also written a book on the subject which has just been released and can be purchased from Amazon.
To start, his Free Online Reputation Management Beginner’s Guide is absolutely invaluable
Because many companies which were involved in SEO are now getting their feet wet with ORM, some great posts can be found in the SEO blogs, and these are becoming more and more prevalent. I have read (and thoroughly enjoyed) the following:
- Lee Odden’s post on the Basics of Online Reputation Management at the TopRank Online Marketing Blog
- A really early post from Jennifer Laycock which I am sure I have mentioned before over at Search Engine Guide on Online Reputation Management, Are You Doing It? shows that this has been around for quite a while
- Fionn Downhill has written a great post on whether Online Reputation Management is Ethical which poses some interesting and very relevant questions
- The Reputation Doctor discusses how Saying Sorry is an Art Form – something we advocate highly
- The debate over at Slashdot discusses whether Online Reputation Management Consultancies are rescuing angels or the spawn of the devil.
Tools for Managing Your Reputation
Just as there are debates and discussions (and let’s be honest, what industry doesn’t have these kind of debates? I am sure when the legal profession began, the same kind of debates were occurring), there are also a lot of clever techies out there who are constructing ORM tools. Most of them are designed to help you monitor your reputation and vary in fees. They include:
- Andy Beal’s Trackur – this looks absolutely brilliant and seeing as Mr Beal is one of the voices in this industry, it is sure to live up to expectations.
- Reputation Monitor from Distilled – this one has been around for a while so benefits from experience and popularity
- BrandsEye have produced a tool which also has good reviews
Or, alternatively if you want to set up monitoring yourself, I can highly recommend Randy’s fantastic post over at non-linear creations where he goes through How to Build a Blog-monitoring Dashboard using Netvibes.
This is a start, to get your teeth into. Obviously, we keep a very close eye on what is going on in the industry so I will ensure that this kind of post appears as often as possible so you don’t have to hunt around.
